President of AES, Mr. Retherford is a Certified Professional Geologist and holds a M.S. in Geology from the University of Colorado.   He has over 36 years experience in geologic consulting, with 10 years in geologic investigations for civil projects including hydroelectric projects, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and foundation investigations.  He has spent a considerable portion of his career managing drilling camps of all sizes on native corporation lands across Alaska. 

B.Sc., Geology, Mackey School of Mines, 1972, Certified Professional Geologist, Alaska.  Mr. Ellis brings 36 years of Alaskan experience to AES, functioning as a successful project geologist exploring for most metal commodities.  Major mining company experience includes Battle Mountain Gold, American Copper and Nickel, Sunshine Mining, and Anaconda Copper.  More than half of his exploration career has been involved in managing exploration on native corporation lands.  He has implemented complex, multi-year programs ranging from small remote reconnaissance camps through semi-permanent drill camps with multi-million dollar budgets.

Mark Neuroth—Geologist

Mark has worked for AES since the summer of 2006. He graduated from the State University of New York in Potsdam in May 2007.  In 2008, Mark worked as the chief logging geologist at Lik camp near Red Dog mine and Nixon Fork Mine in central, AK.  For the 2009 season, Mark has been working with California-based Tecton Geologic logging mud on the Naknek Electric Associations Geothermal Project.

Mike Belowich—Coal Geologist

Mr. Belowich is a Certified Professional Geologist and has over 25 years of coal experience in Alaska, including more than five in coal bed methane exploration.  From 1982 to 1988 Mr. Belowich worked for the Coal Investigation Section of the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys.  Mr. Belowich has also worked for Usibelli Coal Mine, Sutton Partners, the U.S. Department of Energy, Arctic Slope Consulting Group, Nerox Power Systems, and Evergreen Resources Alaska.  Running the AES Wasilla office, his recent work includes Jonesville and Chickaloon coal mine projects, and coal bed methane in upper Cook Inlet. His MS in Geology from the University of Alaska emphasized coal science and technology.

Andy Angel-Geologist

Andy has been with AES since 2003.  He has a B.S. in Geology from Clarion University in Pennsylvania.  Most recently Andy has served as the rig geologist on the Naknek Electric Associations Geothermal Project.

David Redgrave-Logistics Coordinator/Geologist

David has been with AES since May of 2006.  He offers international shipping experience combined with extensive knowledge of bush Alaska to provide excellent logistical support to all AES field projects.  David has coordinated all the logistical support for Naknek Electric Associations Geothermal Project.

Rick Harris - Logistical Support & Field Hand

Rick has been with AES since 2006.  Rick is a recent grad of UAF with a degree in Finance.  Rick provides Anchorage support as well as various assistance in AES field projects.  Rick spent the 2009 season working at our 40 Mile project and our Kuskokwim project.

Bryan Campbell-Geologist

Bryan has worked intermittently with AES since 2004.  He has a geology degree from Central Missouri State University.  He has worked in Australia and at the Pogo Mine logging core. He spent the 2008 season in Southeast Alaska on the Palmer Project and the 2009 season working for Calista Native Corporation as a field geologist for one of their exploration projects.

Meredith Guhl - Geologist

Meredith has a B.S. from the University of Wyoming and a M.S. from the University of Texas at Austin. She has worked at AES since 2004, taking a 15 month hiatus in 2006 to serve as an underground production geologist at the Pogo Mine.  For the 2008 field season Meredith served as project manager at KUY, Fog and Kamishak.  For the 2009 season she was the lead geologist for Golden Zone.  In addition to her field duties, Meredith also serves as the lead on all 43-101 reports and was recently elected the chair of the Alaska branch of the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration.

Ryan Young—GIS & Magnetics

Ryan oversees GIS services for AES, as well as runs ground magnetic surveys during the field season. He has a B.S. from Trinity College, CT (C.S. & Math) and received his Certificate in G.I.S. from UAA in May 2009. Born and raised in Anchorage, he has been with AES since May 2007.

Greg Thurow—Senior Geologist

Mr. Thurow brings over 30 years of geologic experience, including ten years supervising coal bed methane drill programs in the Powder River Basin.  He is a Certified Professional Geologist, has a M.S. in Economic Geology from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has worked on a full range of projects from grass roots exploration to feasibility studies.

Alan Roberts—Senior Geologist

1992 MSc in Mineral Exploration from the Royal School of Mines, London.  Mr. Roberts has over 14 years of active mineral exploration experience. He has worked on exploration projects in China, Africa, Central America and Mexico, as well as the United States. He has focused primarily on Gold exploration but has also worked on other deposits including PGEs, Nickel-Copper, sediment-hosted Copper, porphyry      Copper-Molybdenum, Silver and Uranium. 

Linda Cushman—Accountant

Linda has been with AES since 2002.  She has a B.S. from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from the University of Alaska—Anchorage.  Linda works closely with our clients and vendors to ensure accurate and timely account management. Prior to working at AES she had 15 years of accounting and office management experience.

Sherry Shimek—Executive Assistant & Land Status

Sherry brings over 30 years of experience to AES as an executive assistant.  Sherry assists AES in several areas, including human resources, accounting, land status and permitting.

Gary Friedmann– Business Development & Project Management

For the last year, Gary has provided management support for Naknek Electric Association’s geothermal exploration program.  To help meet tight timelines, Gary coordinated a winter geophysical investigation, assembled a team of drilling professionals and geothermal engineers, facilitated the purchase of a drilling rig, kept permitting on track, and developed and monitors the project budget.  With ten years experience in mineral exploration in every part of Alaska and 25 years in business, Gary’s responsibilities at AES include business development and project management.

Michelle Johnson– Stakeholder Relations

Michelle has worked for AES for 3 seasons in the logistics department.  She continues to support logistics, while also developing our stakeholder relations/community engagement efforts following the completion of her Masters in Sociology.  Michelle coordinates with communities to provide logistical and personnel support to our projects and is currently serving as the Anchorage-based Project Coordinator for the Naknek Electric Association Geothermal Project.
